Wheras I Was Blind, Now I See
Seeking Jesus, or seeing Jesus as He really is, requires much faith and effort on our part. If we are not careful, we, like the pharisees who wondered if they were blind (see John 9:40), may miss Him if we are not looking for him.
In John 9 we read of a man born blind, whose eyes were opened (see John 9:10). This man was not only miraculously healed of his physical blindness but came to see and know the Savior.
This man, who was blind since birth, was anointed with spittled clay by the Savior and then told to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. After washing his eyes were opened.
Others, including some Pharisees, questioned this man, wondering how it was that his eyes were opened. The blind man first answered, "A MAN that is called Jesus...anointed mine eyes, and said unto me...wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight" (John 9:11).
The Pharisees, wondering how a sinner could perform such miracles (see John 9:16) questioned the man further asking, "What sayest thou of Him that He hath opened thine eyes?" The blind man responded by saying, "He is A PROPHET." (John 9:17)
The Pharisees, still not satisfied, questioned the man's parents, and then questioned the man again, "What did He do to thee? How opened He thine eyes?" (John 9:26) The blind man, wondering why they seem to not hear him, testifies that "If this man were not OF GOD, He could do nothing" (John 9:33).
At this reply, the Pharisees cast the man out, and Jesus, who hears what had happened to him, found the nam and asked if he believed on the Son of God (John 9:35). The man answered asking, "Who is He, Lord, that I might believe on Him?" (John 9:26) and Jesus replied saying unto him, "Thou hast both seen Him, and it is He that talketh with thee" (John 9:37) and the man says back to Jesus, "LORD, I believe" (John 9:38).
This man who was blind, went from seeing Jesus as A MAN, then as A PROPHET, then as One who is OF GOD, to believing on the LORD, seeing Jesus Christ for who He really is.
We too can build a relationship with and come to know and believe on the Savior, Jesus Christ as we allow our eyes to be opened and see.
